Soul Train, Black College Football, and Their Part in the Civil Rights Struggle

Love Peace and SoulAward-winning journalist Ericka Blount Danois is the author of Love, Peace, and Soul: Behind the Scenes of America's Favorite Dance Show SOUL TRAIN: Classic Moments. A graduate of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, she teaches at the Philip Merrill School of Journalism at the University of Maryland.

Breaking the LineSamuel G. Freedman is the author of Breaking the Line: The Season in Black College Football That Transformed the Sport and Changed the Course of Civil Rights. He tells the story of the battle for the 1967 black-college championship between Grambling College and Florida A&M, their legendary coaches, and their talented quarterbacks. Samuel Freedman is a columnist for the New York Times, professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and the author of six books. His book, Small Victories: The Real World of a Teacher, was a finalist for the 1990 National Book Award. Another book, The Inheritance: How Three Families and America Moved from Roosevelt to Reagan and Beyond, was a finalist for the 1997 Pulitzer Prize.
